The End Is Not The End
Happy last day of 2008! First and foremost, here are pictures of the Winston Niles Rumfoord and what's been going on with the floor:

Robbie was none too pleased with the new kitty, as you can probably tell by the pictures, but now they're friends.

Here's the floor:

This is the wall the leak was coming from. You can see how much the boards warped.

The puddle down in our crawl space.

So that's been going on at our house now for nearly a month. The insurance is going to cover everything, so our new floor is arriving on the 5th and will be installed on the 12th and 13th, which are the first two days of the semester for me.

This whole ordeal has caused a myriad of problems. We had unbearable heat downstairs for about three days right at the end of the semester because we had to dry out the subfloor. Because of that we had to move the Christmas tree up to our room. Not easy. And it was basically dead, so we should've just tossed it. We've been without our dishwasher this whole time, which sounds ridiculous to complain about, but when you go from having a convenience like that to unexpectedly not having it, it gets hard to get used to it. On top of this, I've had to be home this week to deal with contractors coming. The guy who is fixing our wall is sort of flakey. He's here right now, actually. He was supposed to come yesterday between 10 and 11am. He called at 10:30 and said that his brother, who was visiting for Christmas, was having car trouble and that he would try to make it out that afternoon. I told him it wasn't a big deal and that he could just come the next day. But he insisted on trying to make it out that afternoon. And never called. I had been planning on going to Wild Boar to read for 2-3 hours Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Wild Boar is about 20 min. from our house, so I didn't want to be up there and have him call saying that he was waiting for me at the house. In retrospect, it probably wouldn't have mattered that much. So I basically wasted the day playing video games waiting for this guy. Today, I was expecting him betweeen 10 and 11 again. I had breakfast with Gary and David and could've gone up to Wild Boar from there, but I figured if he got there at 10, that wouldn't leave me much time to read, so I decided to just go home and wait. He called this morning at 10 and said he would be there between 10:30 and 11. Then he called at 11 and said he would be there in no more than 30 minutes. He rolled up at noon. So I could've spent a solid 2 1/2 hours at the coffee shop reading. Maybe a little more. So ridiculous. I know, it is possible to read at home, but I feel like I get so much more done when I'm not at home because I don't have a TV with video games or kitties or my computer. All that stays home when I go to the coffee shop. I guess I just need to force myself to read here though.

Tonight we'll be going down to my parents' house. We're bringing Rumfoord with us. And the Blu-Ray player. Should be good times.
